My book will empower you with the information you need to decide if medical marijuana is right for you.
Most people who could find symptom-relief with medical marijuana don’t even know how to get started; even broaching the subject with others can be scary for them. And, unless you are armed with some knowledge on the subject, going to a marijuana dispensary for the first time can be intimidating. I know, because that’s where I was on the subject three years ago.

The U.S. government holds patents on marijuana:
Despite one arm of the U.S. government holding firm to the idea that marijuana is a dangerous drug, another arm of the government has been granted a number of patents on marijuana for its efficacy in treating chronic pain, cancer, inflammation, and autoimmune disease and for its antioxidant, analgesic, anti-emetic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, anti-glaucoma, neuroprotective, and antitumoral properties.
(Source: U.S. Patents 6,630,507; 8,790,719; 6,448,288; 4,876,276; and 7,179,800.)

Chronic pain can be relieved or quelled by marijuana:
Chronic pain, one of the symptoms that marijuana is known to help, is one of the most common health complaints of Americans, who represent 5% of the world’s population but consume 80% of the painkillers prescribed around the world. (Source: Dr. Sanjay Gupta on “Sanjay Gupta, MD” on CNN; first aired October 17, 2012.)

Addiction to painkillers can lead to heroin:
Many patients become addicted to pharmaceutical painkillers prescribed by doctors and turn to heroin, which is cheaper, when the pills are no longer available through their doctors. As I explain in the book, most experts agree that marijuana is sometimes psychologically addicting but NOT physically addictive.

“Edible” marijuana means “No Puffing Required”:
Edible cannabis products, such as lozenges, tinctures, and capsules make it easy for patients to get symptom relief without ever puffing a joint.

Not all marijuana causes psychoactivity:
Some marijuana strains used by medical marijuana patients cause little to NO psychoactivity.

Chemicals in our own bodies may prove why marijuana is so effective:
In the 1990s, pioneering scientists discovered that chemical compounds in cannabis are a match for receptors in our own cells. An article in Scientific American about the “endocannabinoid” system in our bodies, titled “The Brain's Own Marijuana,” summarized it this way: “Research into natural chemicals that mimic marijuana's effects in the brain could help to explain—and suggest treatments for—pain, anxiety, eating disorders, phobias and other conditions.”
(Source: Nicoll, Roger A. and Bradley N. Alger; “The Brain's Own Marijuana,” Scientific American; November 22, 2004, page 5; Accessed November 11, 2013, http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-brains-own-marijuana/)
Most medical marijuana strains have very different chemical profiles from the highly-psychoactive strains that are preferred by recreational users for the “high” or “trip”: Each strain of marijuana is like a different medicine. But in most states, a doctor who recommends that you use medical marijuana is NOT legally allowed to tell you where to go to buy it or what strain, potency, or dosage to choose. It’s hard to imagine this in the world of medicine; and even in the world of herbs there’s not a good parallel. The closest analogy I came up with is this: Let’s say your doctor wrote you a prescription for an antibiotic. But, instead of writing down which of the 100-plus antibiotics she wanted you to take, she simply wrote “antibiotic” on the prescription, signed it, and sent you off to the pharmacy with it. The pharmacist would be flummoxed and, of course, unable to fill the prescription. That’s basically what happens when patients are given the paperwork that allows them to purchase medical marijuana.

New marijuana strains high in the chemical CBD are considered life-saving for some kids:
A high-CBD strain of marijuana has caused dramatic improvement for children with a condition called Dravet Syndrome, a type of epilepsy that causes debilitating, life-threatening seizures.

Who to talk with about medical marijuana:
Because of the current laws in the U.S. and many other countries, it’s smart to limit your discussion of medical marijuana with most people in your life unless you are certain that they are supportive of your decision to take it. And that especially applies to your workplace.

Why Nature’s remedies are often better than pharmaceuticals:
Most pharmaceuticals are designed to block symptoms, while natural remedies like herbs can help the body heal and release the symptoms.

How the new raw cannabis movement is providing even more relief for some patients, in most cases with NO psychoactivity at all:
Because the psychoactive chemical, THC, is only present when marijuana has been heated, the chemical profile of raw cannabis contains little to NO THC. The pioneering work of Dr. William Courtney in treating patients, including young children, with raw cannabis have led to patients juicing their marijuana or choosing other raw products, such as cold-processed cannabis oil.
